Backups and your data
How do I back up my records?
Your records live only on your device, so back them up regularly, especially before you change phones.
- Open Settings and choose Backup.
- Create a backup file and save it with the share sheet, for example to iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Files or your email.
The backup file contains your tax records in readable form, so keep it somewhere private. Backups are free; you don't need Pro.
How do I restore a backup?
- Install CFO Tax Ledger and open it.
- Go to Settings → Backup and choose Restore.
- Pick your backup file and confirm. Restoring replaces what is currently in the app on that device, so restore before you start logging on a new phone.
I'm moving to a new phone. What should I do?
- On the old phone, make a backup file (see above) and save it somewhere you can reach from the new phone.
- On the new phone, install CFO Tax Ledger and restore that file.
- If you have Pro, tap Restore purchase on the new phone (see below).
Moving between iPhone and Android works the same way. Whole-phone transfers (iPhone Quick Start or iCloud Backup, or Android's backup and transfer) may also bring the app's data across, but a backup file is the dependable way.
How does my data stay on my device?
CFO Tax Ledger has no account and no servers for your records. Trips, entries, receipt photos, gains, rentals and settings are stored in the app's private storage on your device. Nothing is uploaded to StillCFO.
Data leaves your device only when you share a packet or backup file yourself, when your phone's own iCloud or Google backup includes it, and when a purchase is confirmed with Apple or Google and RevenueCat (which receives the receipt and an anonymous ID, never your records). There are no ads, analytics or crash-reporting tools. Details are in the privacy policy.
Can I lock the app?
Yes. Turn on the app lock in Settings to require Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint or your device passcode when the app opens. Your phone checks the biometric; the app never sees it.
Pro subscription
How do I restore my Pro purchase?
- Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account you used to buy Pro.
- Open the Pro screen (from Settings, or from any Pro feature) and tap Restore purchase.
Pro works on any phone or tablet that uses the same store account and platform. A purchase made on the App Store can't be restored on Google Play, or the other way around.
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple or Google, so cancel in your store account:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → CFO Tax Ledger → Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Google Play → tap your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → CFO Tax Ledger → Cancel.
Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid the next charge. Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. Your logged records stay in the app and remain free.
Can I get a refund?
Apple and Google process all payments, so refunds are requested from them: Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, and Google through Google Play's order history. StillCFO can't issue refunds directly.
What's free and what's Pro?
All logging is free forever. Pro ($19.99 a year, one tax year per payment; each renewal unlocks the next tax year) adds the CPA packet export, receipt photos, bank, card and broker CSV import, imports from MileIQ, Everlance and Stride, and more than one vehicle.
Tax time
How do I export the packet for my CPA?
- Open the Packet screen and pick the tax year.
- Review the year-end checklist so nothing is missing.
- Tap export. You'll get a PDF summary plus CSV files (mileage, Schedule C, Schedule D / Form 8949, Schedule E) through the share sheet. Send them to your CPA or keep them for entering into a free filer.
The packet export is a Pro feature. It is an organized summary of what you entered, not a tax return.
Does CFO Tax Ledger file my return?
No. It organizes your records for your CPA or for a free filer. It is not tax advice.
Mileage
How does the GPS stamp work?
Tap Start when you set off and Stop when you arrive. The app reads your location at those two moments, calculates the distance on your phone and saves it with the trip, which you can review and edit.
- The app asks for location only "while using the app". It does not track you in the background or detect trips automatically.
- Your location is never sent to StillCFO or anyone else.
- Don't want to share location? Type the miles or enter odometer readings instead.
If the stamp isn't working, check that location access for CFO Tax Ledger is set to "While Using the App" in your phone's settings, and that you have a clear view of the sky when you tap.
Can I import trips from another mileage app?
Yes, with Pro. Export a CSV from MileIQ, Everlance or Stride, then use the import option on the Mileage screen. The app shows every row it reads and any it couldn't, so nothing is dropped silently.
